Ravn Forlag is today publishing five new titles by S. A. Robbestad. The releases range from Norwegian folk tales and Norse mythology to psychological short stories and historical fiction.
Among today's releases is Fra eventyrenes vrangside, a collection of Norwegian folk tales that reveals a darker and lesser-known side of the oral storytelling tradition. Here readers encounter trolls, hulders, giants, bewitched king's sons and cunning farmhands in tales marked by brutality, humour and superstition.
Norse mythology takes centre stage in two of the books. Før verden fikk navn retells the creation myth from Ginnungagap to the gods' reckoning with the primordial giant Ymir, while Ginnungagap gathers the entire Norse cosmology – from creation to Ragnarok – into a single unified narrative.
On the literary fiction side comes Kyklopens Øye, a collection of fourteen short stories in which psychological tension, uncertain perceptions of reality and existential questions take centre stage.
The fifth release, Tyven i Ravnvik, is a historical tale set in a Norwegian rural community, in which a desperate father is forced to steal grain to keep his family alive.
The releases form part of Ravn Forlag's commitment to Norwegian storytelling tradition, classical myths and new fiction, with the aim of making both cultural heritage and original stories accessible to a modern audience.
